Chevrolet has been busy with redesigning its SUVs and we saw the all-new Equinox for the 2018 model year and the redesigned Traverse for the 2019 model version. However, the buyer who wants more maneuverable and easier to park high-riding Chevy should consider the subcompact Trax model. The Trax entered the US market as the 2015 model and Chevy refreshed it for the 2017 model year. The refreshed Trax got updated exterior and interior styling, the Premier trim and some advanced safety equipment.
The Trax competes with the names like the Mazda CX-3, Honda CR-V, Mini Countryman among others. The model shares the platform, powertrains and safety equipment with the luxury Ligue Buick Encore.
The new version of the model comes as the 2019 Chevy Trax. The third year after the last refresh won’t, however, bring much news. The Trax will remain familiar form with some changes in the color palette and just a few new features.
2019 Chevy Trax: Design
The Trax combines the tall hatchback and SUV design. It shares the Gamma II architecture with the premium Buick Encore and Chevy Sonic. The Trax isn’t very expressively styled and certainly lacks more visual attitude compared to rivals from Mazda, Jeep and Mini.
The Trax won’t change much on its visual identity for the model year. Actually, the novelties will reduce to the addition of the three new color options and the deletion of the existing one.
The model will arrive on the 16-inch wheels in the base version and the top-tier models will get the 18-inch alloys. All except the base models will include LED DRL’s and taillights.
The cabin of the Trax is its brighter side and model offers the most of the space thanks to the well-organized design. The model also has comfortable and supportive seats and the control layout is also neatly arranged for the easy use. It also comes with good quality and attractive materials in all trims. The max cargo capacity is up to 48.4 cubes.
The small Chevy SUV will include the up-to-date MyLink infotainment system, WiFi capability, a rearview camera, USB port, etc. The next-level version will add satellite radio, LED lighting units, premium cloth upholstery, and more premium options like the power seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, etc.
The top-tier model will improve with the 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, unique interior pieces, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, etc.
2019 Chevy Trax: Performance, MPG
The 2019 Chevy Trax will return with the single powertrain. The Trax isn’t very capable when accelerating and the fuel efficiency also falls behind the class best. However, the Tax will offer the all-wheel drive in all levels.
The small Chevy SUV will have the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. This small unit makes 138 hp and torque of 148 lb-ft. The model uses the six-speed automatic transmission with this engine. The front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive optional on all versions.
With the power on the two wheels, the Trax will provide 28 mpg combined and the all-wheel drive will return 1 mpg less.
2019 Chevy Trax: Release, Price
The price of the 2019 Chevy Trax will stay close to the current range which starts at $21, 000. The arrival will be this fall.
